ABOUT US

The name Zacatecas called the name Zacatacos, it simply means “Take Out Tacos.” Located in the heart of the Westlawn community, Zacatacos opened in November 1996. It was one of the first taquerias in the formerly Polish Lithuanian neighborhood. We are a family-owned taqueria with a simple concept: Traditional Mexican dishes with fresh homemade taste.

Zacatacos prides itself in using only USDA Choice Inner skirt for its famous steak tacos. The skirt steak is seasoned and charbroiled all day long- so your steak is always juicy and tender. El Pastor tacos are also a favorite, served upon request with pineapple, onions and cilantro and our famous salsa roja.

Chicago Tribune - 30 Sandwiches, 30 days

Zacataco Sandwich was featured in Chicago Tribune’s article “30 SANDWICHES, 30 DAYS” in the Sunday edition on April 10, 2011, when Beef Milanesa Torta was ranked 10th as one of 30 sandwiches worth monitoring in that review.

One of the reviewers wrote about Zacatacos Beef Milanesa Torta: “Why is it the best thing in an excellent taqueria comes between two slices of grilled bread? Maybe it’s the ultra-thin slices of seasoned flank steak, lightly fried. It could be the bid slice
of fresh avocado. Or the fresh tomato. or the sour cream. No tortilla?

In 2006, Chicago Tribune readers nominated dozens of taquerias and restaurants across seven counties for the best taco-serving places. From those nominated the reviewers chose Zacatacos as one of the top five finalists. Zacatacos Tacos scored 5th place in Chicago Tribune’s “Chicago best taco” review.
